What is interesting about collecting autographs or just collecting cards in general that there are times when you ask yourself what am I doing?? I try and be careful about spending too much but it seems I can not control myself at times. When you send out cards through the mail and you send out 30 a week what makes it hard is not getting many back. After I listed my players list of who I sent to I can see the success rate is not as good as I thought.
I am glad that I have started seeing some of the rookie players signing their rookie cards, I hope that trend continues. I did get back another rookie card autographed in yesterdays mail and in today's mail I got 2 more autographs coming in. I believe one of them is another rookie and my guess is Emma gentry of the Toronto Sceptres. Last season she put up 2 points in 27 games but still at 23 she will get better. I could be wrong but I am about 95% certain it is her.
Yes I was correct it was Emma Gentry as she signed and a very nice looking auto. This is my second rookie card from Fleer that I have had signed. I have seen Emma's autograph signed just EG but I like the full auto much better.
This is the autograph I got back yesterday of Callie Shanahan of the New York Sirens. When I opened the envelope I did not see that the card had been signed but then my eye caught the upper right corner and I saw the auto. I am very appreciative when a player signs for me but I will be honest I wish they would have better penmanship. I see this a lot when collectors open boxes and they pull an auto. It is either not legible and a lot of players are just initialing their autograph. I think they do that because they have bad penmanship. I keep asking myself is that the same way they sign important papers.
Ok now this card I was very glad I got it back signed by Maggie Souba and I will add this. When I opened the envelope I saw a letter and it was a full page. So I read the beginning and the first part of the letter is written by her daughter. She thanked me for sending the cards of her Mom as it was nice for her to see her Mom in her college hockey days. She thought what I was doing was cool. The other part of the letter was by Maggie. She thought it was nice as it brought back memories. She went on to tell me of her kids who all play hockey and she and her husband coach their teams. So since the letter made me feel good because I always try and write a nice letter and I was glad I could make them all feel good so I returned the favor. I sent them 12 cards. One card I sent was a leaf one of one autograph card of Hilary Knight, a 2014 Topps Olympic Hilary Knight card, 2 Bobby Orr cards, and 8 different Joy Dunne cards. I enjoy doing things for people that do good to me and I hope it puts a smile on all of their faces as those letters put a smile on mine and to me this is what it is all about. Not only does the hobby need more of this but what a better world we would live in. I will always be like this because I was raised to always be kind to those that are kind to you. The world needs more love instead of all the hate and I just love putting smiles on faces and I continue to support Women's hockey now and in the future.I got this one back today of Kelly Terry and this card is the 2010 Upper deck World of Sports and playing for team Canada. Her autograph is from what I can see is initials KT and her jersey number of 14.
This is the card that I will be looking for and I really hope I can locate this card and get Marisa to sign it. Of all of the 1997-98 Minnesota Gophers set I have never been able to find her card. I wonder if it was a short print. I have added this card to my Biggest Wants page hoping someone can locate this card.
I am looking forward to getting more through the mail autographs back this week as last week I got back from three different players. There are times where I feel bad that a player I really need won't sign the card and it does hurt my feelings. I just wish all players would sign for their fans. I look forward to getting back the first goal card as I sent it out to Brittny Ralph to sign the front of the card and that will give me 3 autographs on the one card as depicted by the players photo's on the card.
I hope that whatever you collect that you can find those key cards as reasonable as possible but most importantly enjoy the hobby for what it is and as always stay safe!!!
