These cards remind me of Spring

I thought today's post would be about Baseball since we are into the spring training and I will end it with some hockey. I have been looking through a ton of older topps sets and other cards from other companies.

I came accross the 1987 Sportflics set and they are a unique design but I will say that I like the Kelloggs much better. My reason for that is you can see more of movement when tilting the cards. The sportflics cards some have three player listed and you can tilt to see each one but you have to really squint to see each player.

This card is from the 1986 Topps set of George Brett. The borders on these cards can cause them to be more of a challenge of finding NR. MT. to Mint conditions because of the black borders. These tend to flake if there is any kind of rubbing the card near the top. Still I do like this design. The 1985 season Brett hit 335 with 30 homeruns and 112 RBI's and finished second for the AL MVP.

This card is from the 1987 Topps Traded card of Greg Maddux's  rookie card. I liked this design with the woodgrain look for the cards border. Topps did this back in 1962. Maddux went on to win 4 Cy Young awards and the 1995 World Series. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014.

This card is the 1987 Sportflics card of Fred Lynn and you can also see Kirby Puckett batting but the third player is Rickey Henderson but to see him you have to tilt the card. These cards are similar to the Kellogg's 3-D cards but I liked the Kellogg's borders with the blue tints.

This card is from the 1997-98 University of Minnesota Golden Gophers Women's Hockey card of Matty Brekken. I was pleased to have got this one back signed. I hope to someday have the entire set completely autographed as I did do for the 2007-08 Goper Women's Hockey set. I like the borders of these cards the brown & Gold borders with a dark background. This one is signed in Gold Paint pen and it does show much better than a black or blue ink.

This card is from the 2021-22 Tim Horton's CAPTAINS card of Marie-Philip Poulin . These cards are very colorful and these change when you move them. Another nice addition to my collection.

My next post will be the first day of March as I will be thinking about what to show next. Thanks for the visit and if you are enjoying the posts then give us a follow. Look forward to your responses!!!

  3. a. Brett was a stud.

    b. Maddux was too.

    c. Kellogg's might be cooler, but I still have a soft spot for Sportflics. The 1986 series were the first high-end product I ever opened. I know many collectors would argue that it wasn't considered a high-end product, but I was just a kid when they came out. At the time wax packs of Topps, Donruss, or Fleer with 15 cards could be purchased for 35 to 50¢ each. That breaks down to 3 to 3.3¢ per card. Sportflics? 3 cards (plus 2 trivia cards) for 65¢ (21.6¢ per card). That's big money for a collector buying packs on a budget based on a kid's allowance :D

  4. I have noticed that the Kelloggs cards will curl real bad if not kept in sheets or toploaders. I like sportflics too and the prices back then were minimal compared to the inflated prices for cards today. I would never pay over $200 for a box of cards and some boxes only have one pack for 6 to 8 cards. I miss the days of buying an unopened box of cards for $35 a box and a majority of the inserts had some beautiful designs and the cards that had that metallic look and feel to them. AHHH The Good 'ol Days!!!
